The Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation is expected to start the upgrade of the substation in Gautam Budh Nagar, India, where the transformer capacity is currently only 400KV. The installation of the 500MVA transformer at the Pali substation is expected to start within a fortnight, writes The Times of India.

The new transformer arrived in Noida after being built and assembled in Baroda. After the installation, the transformer capacity of the substation will be boosted, allowing it to draw more electricity.

Currently, there are three transformers of 315MVA capacity each at the Pali substation. The corporation officials said they are yet to decide as to whether the new transformer should ‘replace’ one of the old 315MVA transformers or if it should be added to the existing capacity.

Last week, a meeting was held regarding this in Noida.

The officials said that the senior corporation officials are pressuring for addition of the new transformer to the existing capacity, instead of replacing the old 315MVA transformer. “A decision will be made in the next few days,” said a senior official.

If the new transformer is added to the existing one, rather than replacing it, the power cuts in Gautam Budh Nagar would reduce to a great extent as a total capacity of the substation would rise to 1,445MVA. On replacement, it would remain at 1,130MVA.
