ECG network expansion to include power plant transformer installation

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is undertaking an expansion programme in the Ashanti Region to improve supply to the customers.
ECG was reinforcing the existing sub-transmission network to cope with the growing demand of new communities, according to the Regional Engineer, Ashanti West Region of ECG, Dr Kwabena Adomah.
The upgrade of the existing distribution networks in the Ashanti region will include construction of double circuit 33kV overhead lines from Nhyiaeso to Adoato substations, Nhyiaeso to Airport Roundabout and Airport Roundabout to Suame Magazine substations and the upgrading of Adoato to Barekese feeders. The Barekese lines used for water delivery will also be upgraded.
According to the Regional General Manager for Ashanti East Region, Ing. Abdulai Kurah, the project will involve the installation of two power transformers at the Anwomaso station to ensure adequate, stable and efficient distribution of power in the eastern part of the metropolis and its surrounding communities.
Due to technical and commercial losses, the ECG is installing automated remote meter reading device in all its operational areas to prevent tampering with the meters. Ing. Jones Ofori-Addo said that ECG will soon develop the SMART-G pre-payment metering system which easily trips in case of tampering.
As part of the programme, ECG is putting up new district offices in the region to connect to their customers and modernise their operation.
