KSEB project to include installation of 249 new transformers in Kozhikode city

Kozhikode residents in Kerala, India are expecting a launch of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) by The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on the 10th November, which should mark an end to frequent power interruptions and voltage fluctuations.
The R-APDRP construction site will be set with 286 km of 11 kV underground electricity transmission cables, according to a KSEB official. Installation of 249 new transformers, drawing of new overhead electricity lines and repairing and maintenance of the existing ones is also planned.
The project is expected to be completed within 20 months and will benefit the consumers within 400 sq kilometres in Kozhikode, ensuring uninterrupted power supply. It should reduce the AT&C power transmission loss in Kozhikode, which is currently 23 to 15%.
“We have begun replacing the mechanical metres with electronic metres to ensure effective metering. The move is also expected to put an end to the practice of unmetered use of electricity,” said an official to The Times of India.
