Kilby Road in Harrison, Ohio, USA was closed on Monday evening due to a car striking a pole and bringing down transformers and wires. Almost 1,200 households lost power in the area.

The car struck the pole just before 6:30 p.m. and passers-by claimed that transformers and wires were falling onto the car, trapping two people inside.

The patients were stabilised and taken by helicopters, one of them being transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

1,200 Duke Energy customers lost power after the incident, but by 7:30 p.m., that number was down to about 440, according to Sally Thelen, Duke spokeswoman.

“Some of our digital equipment kicked in and rerouted power instantly,” she said.

“There’s going to be a remainder (of households that will remain without power) right in that vicinity where they’re going to have to replace the pole, and it’ll be a while,” she said.

By 11 p.m., all but three customers in Hamilton County had power back.
