ERDF invited nine second-year students of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Informatics (GEII) under the established partnership with the l’IUT de Tarbes to visit the electrical substation facilities Aureilhan, Hautes-Pyrenees, France.

The students observed essential substation functions: transport of energy and contribution to the power grid safety. The transformer station Aureilhan, with a power of 3×36 million W, has three transformers that convert high voltage of 63 kV to a medium voltage of 20 kV.

The station supplies power to 32,000 consumers in the area of Tarbes.

Aureilhan power station uses the latest digital technology equipment (digital command control level) for fault detection and remote automatic operation control managed remotely from the ACR Pau.

The partnership between ERDF and the I’IUT de Tarbes enables students to gain experience for a specific job in ERDF for two years, while maintaining the traditional academic curriculum.

ERDF will hold “Open Day” at the I’IUT de Tarbes on the 14th and 15th February 2014.
