On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad sought an intervention of the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, India in repairs of the damaged transformers.

The chairman of the forum, Awadhesh Verma said to the Times of India that they alerted  the UPERC as soon as it came to their knowledge that the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited and other power companies had decided to increase the deadline for replacement of the damaged transformers to a 100 hours.

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Supply Code, 2005, clearly states that “interruption/failure of power supply, in case of a blown distribution mains/service poles fuse, directs that the problem of the damaged distribution transformer must be addressed within 24 hours in the urban areas and within 72 hours in the rural areas.”

Verma commented, “So where does replacing the damaged transformers within a 100 hours come into the picture?” He added that the UPERC chairman, Desh Deepak Verma, assured him he will look into the problem.
