ABB wins order to reinforce Mozambique power grid

Mozambique: ABB has won a contract worth about $ 20 million from Aarsleff - Seth JV to provide the engineered equipment products for two new substations in Mozambique.

Mozambique: ABB has won a contract worth about $ 20 million from Aarsleff – Seth JV to provide the engineered equipment products for two new substations in Mozambique.

The substations are owned and operated by Electricidade de Mozambique (EdM) which intends to extend the transmission network in Mozambique. According to the contract, ABB will also rehabilitate and extend nine existing transmission substations, replacing power transformers, that will assist to reinforce the grid.

The contract also includes the design and supply of engineered packages for the high-voltage AIS substations. ABB will supply circuit breakers, gas and air insulated medium voltage switchgear, IEC 61850 based open control and protection systems, and high-voltage equipment.

Head of ABB Substations, Oleg Aleinikov, said: “These substations will help to extend and strengthen the grid, enhancing power supplies to meet the increasing demand for electricity and contributing to economic development.”

According to ABB, power demand in Mozambique is increasing at 10 % to 15 %  rate per year because of industrial growth, increased construction and economic development.
