USA, Michigan: Faulty power transformer has been replaced at DTE energy’s Fermi 2 nuclear power plant and power supply restored.

The plant was operating at about 70 % power when it was restarted yesterday, said Stephen Tait, a nuclear communications staff member at DTE.

The plant was shut down on the 16th April for replacement of one of the plant’s two main power transformers. The shutdown did not affect power to the consumers.

“Workers are monitoring the progress and testing to make sure things operate at a safe level.” Mr. Tait said.

The transformer was located outside and separate from the reactor. The purpose of the transformer was to increase the voltage power coming from the plant’s generator so it can be sent to the grid. It was not operating properly after recent refueling outage.
