Japan: Toshiba will make an offer to General Electric (GE) to acquire the power transformer and management systems from the energy department of Alstom.

Toshiba, which already has a very substantial energy activity, with power equipment for substations and other devices, has already acquired the Swiss company Landis + Gyr, a specialist in “smart meters”,essential equipment for electrical next generation networks.

Toshiba has a turnover of $ 3 billion in the distribution but it would be tripled if it acquired Alstom, reports Lemonade.

GE has recently proposed to acquire Alstom’s energy branch for $ 17 billion . The Board of Directors of the French group decided to wait until late May to discuss other proposals before entering into exclusive negotiations with GE, whose offer it currently prefers. Germany’s Siemens is also placing an offer.
