ABB to supply power transformers for Swiss pumped-storage plant
Switzerland, Zurich: ABB has announced it will equip the 900 MW Nant de Drance pumped-storage plant in Valais with power transformers and six generator circuit breakers.

Switzerland, Zurich: ABB has announced it will equip the 900 MW Nant de Drance pumped-storage plant in Valais with power transformers and six generator circuit breakers.
ABB will supply 170-ton power transformers for the project, which need to transported from the factory through narrow mountain passes into an underground rock cavern and this will pose a unique challenge for the company.
ABB will also supply its HECPS-3S generator circuit breaker technology for the project. HECPS-3S is specifically designed for pumped-storage applications, reports Water Power Magazine.
The $ 2.2 billion Nant de Drance pumped-storage project is being developed by Nant de Drance SA with its partners Alpiq, SBB, Industrial Works and the Valais Electricity Company FMV.
