ABB wins orders worth £ 20 million from Ulstein Verft

Switzerland, Zurich: ABB won orders worth $ 20 million to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for two next generation offshore vessels built by Norway’s Ulstein Verft.

Switzerland, Zurich: ABB won orders worth $ 20 million to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for two next generation offshore vessels built by Norway’s Ulstein Verft.

ABB will supply an advanced complete power and diesel electric system package including power transformers, comprising medium voltage generators, switchboards, frequency converters and motors for the first Ulstein SX165 design vessel due for delivery in the third quarter of 2015.The SX165 will be the largest vessel built at 28 m wide and 145.7 m long, reports Motorship.

Heikki Soljama, head of marine and cranes, ABB, said: “ABB’s advanced power system and remote diagnostic system will maximise the operational flexibility and safety. We look forward to cooperating in the projects and to delivering high quality services to these pioneering new ships.”

The company will also supply an advanced complete power and diesel electric system for the second vessel of the Rolls-Royce UT 777 design, including power management system, power transformers, medium voltage generators, switchboards, frequency converters and motors. The second vessel is scheduled for completion in 2017 and will be built by Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
