West Penn Power inspects power equipment prior to summer season
USA, Pennsylvania: FirstEnergy Corp. is completing inspections and conducting power equipment maintenance in its West Penn Power central and western Pennsylvania territory as the hot summer months are expected to produce higher electrical demand.

USA, Pennsylvania: FirstEnergy Corp. is completing inspections and conducting power equipment maintenance in its West Penn Power central and western Pennsylvania territory as the hot summer months are expected to produce higher electrical demand.
The inspections include “thermovision” cameras to capture infrared images detecting potential problems with West Penn Power substation equipment such as power transformers and capacitors. Thus, maintenance and repairs can be conducted preventively.
West Penn Power crews are also inspecting power transformers and other equipment to ensure they are operational and ready to withstand increased power demand, reports Stockhouse.
David W. McDonald, president of West Penn Power, said: “By proactively inspecting and maintaining our equipment, we are able to help ensure system reliability and meet this increased electrical load when temperatures climb and customers turn on their air conditioners.”
The crews are finishing work on several projects to improve the reliability of West Penn Power’s transmission and distribution systems. The projects include a new substation and transmission line near Kittanning, and installation of a large power transformer in the Enon Substation in Greene County, to increase the substation’s transmission capacity.
