India: Schneider Electric is looking into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan to develop 100 new smart cities as a potential market for its products.

Prakash Chandraker, Vice President and Managing Director (Infrastructure Business) of Schneider Electric said the company is looking at providing smart city solutions in the proposed cities, utilising their range of power products such as power transformers and switchgears for the smart cities.

“These smart cities are a great business proposition for us.” he said, but declined to provide details of any proposed investments, reports Money Control.

In January, Modi promised to develop the smart cities as part of his vision for the country, while Schneider Electric intends to expand its footprint in the north-eastern part of India, looking at business potential in areas such as power transmission and utility products.
