Power transformer rolls through Lehigh County on way to new PPL substation

USA, Pennsylvania: An 82-tonne power transformer was hauled through Upper Macungie Township.
The transformers was delivered from Mobile, Alabama, where it was manufactured. The trailer used for transport has more axles than a standard trailer and is designed to disburse the weight of heavy loads over a larger area and lessen the likelihood of road surface damage.
During the transport, police directed the traffic during the transport and the whole process will be repeated later this month when the second and final transformer arrives. The transport was organised and coordinated for weeks beforehand, reports Lehigh Valley Live.
Julie Holman, a logistics coordinator for Specialized Rail Transport said: “This is the first transformer that’s being transported this morning. The second one should probably be arriving sometime this weekend or next week and we’ll do the whole thing again.”
The new Breinigsville substation is being built by PPL to improve the Lehigh Valley’s power system according to the spokeswoman Melinda Stumpf.
