Power equipment producers confident in smart solutions increase in Indian market

India, New Delhi: Power equipment producers are confident of opportunities for smart solutions in the Indian market due to increasing installations of renewable energy and complexities of power transmission and distribution infrastructure.

India, New Delhi: Power equipment producers are confident of opportunities for smart solutions in the Indian market due to increasing installations of renewable energy and complexities of power transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Power transformer producers have confidence in smart grids following failure of power transmission network in mid-2012 and recent blackouts, reports The Economic Times.

Modern grids generate and communicate data to the operators and automatically make decisions to improve efficiency and reliability of the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. New power transformers are also equipped with sensors that alert for possible breakdowns in the system to the operators miles away.

Smart solutions is considered the fastest growing segment for power equipment makers-mainly multinational firms, which invested heavily in past three to five years for research and production in India.

ABB India has started offering smart solutions to the large industrial and commercial complexes including New Delhi airport. “India was caught up in addition of generation capacities and not bringing in stability in the transmission system. However, recent grid failures made us think that all is not well in the system. With increasing penetration of renewables, power generation is becoming even more unpredictable for the transmission and distribution systems to handle the load. Smart solution for the transmission grid is an answer to overcome these uncertainties.” said ABB India MD Bazmi Husain.
