Switzerland, Zurich: ABB announced it will provide process electrification at a new pulp mill (the world’s largest) to be built in South Sumatra, Indonesia.

ABB will deliver distribution transformers and medium and low voltage switchgears amongst other equipment. The project is managed by ABB’s unit in Vaasa, Finland, in cooperation with ABB in Singapore. Commercial operation of the new pulp mill will begin in 2016, reports Control Engineering Asia.

“ABB’s vast pulp and paper industry knowledge and project execution capabilities were important factors in winning this order. We are happy to be part of such a prestigious project and will deploy the latest technologies to maximise mill efficiency and reliability, while minimising environmental impact.” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division.

ABB carried out similar projects to customers in Asia, Africa, Australia and South America, and most recently in the Stora Enso/Arauco pulp mill in Uruguay.
