Switzerland, Zurich: ABB has won a $14 million order from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Arabia’s national power transmission and distribution operator.

ABB will supply power transformers, shunt reactors and station service transformers for a substation that will enable power transmission from new combined cycle power plant under construction to enhance power supplies to Riyadh and surrounding areas in the Central Region.

“These state-of-the-art transformers and shunt reactors will help evacuate power and transmit it reliably and efficiently to meet growing demand for electricity in the region.” said Markus Heimbach, head of ABB’s Transformers business.

Saudi Arabia faces rising demand for electricity due to an increase in population and industrial growth led by the oil, gas and petrochemicals sector.
