Tanzania, Dar es Salaam: Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) is constructing five power substations in the city in effort to overcome low voltage experienced in most parts of the city.

Tanesco states that power demand across the country is 950 MW but Dar es Salaam alone uses 600 MW or 60% of the nation’s power output.

“This is why the substations have been overloaded.” Tanesco Managing Director, Felchesmi Mramba told reports while visiting the substations under construction in Mbagala, Kinyerezi, Kurasini, Kipawa and Gongo la Mboto.

The Gongo la Mboto substation is expected to start operating in December this year and the Mbagala one will start producing power by February of next year. The entire project is expected to be complete by  August next year, reports IPP Media.
