Lithuania, Klaipeda: The first two transformers for the NordBalt power interconnection connecting Lithuania with Sweden have been unloaded from the vessel by a floating crane.

The transformers manufactured by ABB’s plant in Ludvika, Sweden, are to be transported to Kikkenai where a HVDC back-to-back converter station is being constructed for NordBalt project.

With a capacity of 256 MVA, the transformers will be the most powerful in Lithuania.

NordBalt power interconnection with a capacity of 700 MW and extending over 450 km will enable power exchange between Lithuania and Sweden. The operation start date is planned for the end of 2015.
