USA, New York: A fire at a Consolidated Edison substation in Thornwood led to the spilling of about 10,220 litres of power transformer oil.

About 60 ml of the transformer oil spilled on to soil, but much of it was contained in a moat surrounding the substation, Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury said.

The fire which was most probably caused by the utility’s equipment failure also lead to disruption of train service on Metro-North’s Harlem Line.

Firefighters responded to the incident and no injuries or power outages were reported.
