Norway: Norway’s transmission system operator Statnett has placed an order with ABB for the expansion of three existing 420 kV substations at Ofoten, Bardufoss and Balsfjord.

The scope of the order includes design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of all the electrical equipment. In addition to 420 kV Live Tank Circuit Breakers (LTB) and 132 kV Disconnecting Circuit Breakers (DCB), the product supplies will include 132 kV and 22 kV switchgear, disconnectors, instrument transformers and cables, reports ABB.

The three substations will support a new power line being built as part of a major grid development program in the northern part of Norway to enhance capacity, reliability and efficiency. The power line is eventually expected to benefit the entire Nordic power system, including a transmission link to Finland.
