Severe thunderstorms cause transformer explosion in Cali

Colombia, Valle del Cauca: A blown transformer and numerous circuit failures in the Cali power grid caused by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm have left thousands of Emcali customers without power.

 


Colombia, Valle del Cauca: A blown transformer and numerous circuit failures in the Cali power grid caused by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm have left thousands of Emcali customers without power.

As the relentless rain hit the city of Cali, a power transformer exploded in the Chapinero neighbourhood and eight circuit failures occurred in the city power grid, affecting 31 districts of the city.

Following the interventions of fire crews and the city electricity company, Cali electricity provider Emcali reported that 95% of the energy has been restored.
