UK, Scottish Highlands: Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission will invest £1.1 billion ($1.6 billion) into the new Caithness-Moray electricity transmission link.

New power transformer and associated electrical equipment will be built into the new substation to be constructed to the south of Thurso. The equipment will support a new 275 kV overhead line which will replace the existing 132 kV line between Dounreay and Spittal.

An additional 132 kV overhead line will be built between Spittal and Mybster, where the existing substation will be extended.

The three-year project which will enable the connection of 1.2 gigawatts of new renewable electricity generation is scheduled to be completed by 2018.
