Serbia, Belgrade: A new transformer station worth $23.5 million has been commissioned in the city of Vranje, southeastern Serbia, by the Serbian state-owned power distributor Elektromreze Srbije (EMS).

The first stage of the construction of Vranje 4 substation with power transformers and associated electrical equipment was funded by the EU, while EMS financed the second stage, reports b92.

The construction of the substation began in 2012 following the latest technology standards and strict environmental and urban development requirements.

The new substation is part of the new electric interconnection between Serbia and Macedonia, which will be integrated in the planned trans-Balkan power corridor.
