USA, Colorado: The Nucla Substation in Montrose County, Colorado, will be upgraded by San Miguel Power Association (SMPA) as part of the West End Reliability Project designed to boost the reliability of the grid in the west end of Montrose County.

The project will include a power transformer replacement and the installation of new breakers and protective devices.

One unit will replace the existing power transformer in the Nucla Substation which has served as a temporary replacement transformer after the original unit was destroyed in a lightning strike during the summer of 2013. The second unit will serve as a mobile spare transformer dedicated as a backup unit for the West End.

Work is scheduled to begin in mid-February with the delivery of two new power transformers.
