Germany, Regensburg: An Italian utility company, Etschwerke Netz AG, the largest utility in South Tyrol, has been using the new fleet monitoring system from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen since the autumn of 2014 to advance the control of power transformers in the Bolzano and Naturns substations.

The company has been using the system to capture and enrich data on the six transformers used in the Bolzano and Naturns substations, all coming from different manufacturers, aged between 5 and 39 years, and used at a voltage level of 220/66 kV, states MR.

The collected data includes gas-in-oil, moisture-in-oil, active power, apparent power, reactive power, load current, load voltage, ambient temperature and oil level as well as the tap-changer position and the contact wear of the main switching contact and transition contacts.

The need for complete status monitoring is growing with the rise of the average age of power transformers.
