France, Corsica: A French electric utility company EDF has inaugurated a new substation at Loretto location in Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica.

The new Loretto facility is the first out of 27 substations on the island to have three power transformers installed, offering capacity of 76 MW to more than 20,000 households, reports Corse Net Infos.

The new infrastructure has been built with an investment of €9 million ($10.2 million) to replace the old facility dating from the 1970s, which supplied 40 MW of power.

Featuring the latest digital technology, as well as monitoring and network protection systems, the new Loretto substation can produce beyond 100 MW if demand arises.
