Cattenom reactor shut down due to transformer fault

France, Cattenom: Reactor Unit 3 at the Cattenom Nuclear Power Plant located close to Luxembourg-France border in the Cattenom commune, France, has been shut down after an electrical fault was detected in the main power transformer.

The malfunction of the main transformer of Production Unit 3 was discovered on Wednesday morning, putting at risk the safety of the unit’s turbine located in the non-nuclear part of the facility, reports Luxemburger Wort.

Reactor Unit 3 was consequently shut down and the authorities investigate the cause of the electrical fault.

This has left only Units 2 and 4 operational as Unit 1 is taken offline for scheduled maintenance works.
