Spain, Madrid: Spain, Portugal and France sealed the agreement on boosting energy cooperation as a step towards reducing energy dependence on Russian energy supplies.

The energy deal follows the establishment of the new electricity line through the Pyrenees Mountains inaugurated last month and expected to increase electricity interconnection among the three countries, which currently stands at five percent, reports ABC News.

Further plans include connection of an additional special power tranformer to the line in 2017 to boost capacity and help reach the 10 percent EU target.

New infrastructure will also be necessary to reach this target, so further funds will be made available for the required projects.
