Australia, Western Australia: ABB has won a multi-million dollar contract to provide a substation upgrade solution for a new power station being constructed by TransAlta in South Hedland, Western Australia.

As part of the contract, ABB will design, engineer, supply and commission the substation upgrade, providing an 11/220 kV generator transformer, air-insulated switchgear, as well as protection and substation automation modifications, reports Ferret.

ABB will also connect the transmission grid to the new 150 MW combined cycle gas power station currently under construction.

The upgraded substation, will enable TransAlta’s new South Hedland Power Station (SHPS) to supply electricity to Fortescue Metals Group and Horizon Power, a state owned utility in the Pilbara.

The project is scheduled for completion in early 2016.
