USA, Indiana: ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor, a steelmaking facility located on Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana, was forced to shut down production on Friday due to a transformer failure that caused a lack of power.
After the transformer failed on Friday morning, flaring was visible at the plant and several fire and emergency medical service crews responded to the incident, but there were no injuries reported, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.
“A controlled emergency shutdown of the facility’s power station was executed as a precautionary measure,” Burns Harbor spokeswoman said.
The integrated steel mill in Burns Harbor is ArcelorMittal’s second largest facility in the United States.
