USA, New York: A brand new power transformer is scheduled to arrive at the Massena Electric Department’s (MED) East Hatfield substation at the beginning of April.

The new transformer will replace a 20-year-old aluminium core transformer, which will be unloaded before the new unit is offloaded onto the new pod, where it will sit for a couple of weeks waiting for the testing and commissioning, reports Watertown Daily Times.

Last year, the old piece of equipment was sent to Pennsylvania for repairs, and testing indicated that one of the internal switches was loose. Oil test results also indicated that a loose connection was causing the problem, according to MED Superintendent Mr. McMahon’s statement at the time.

The affected transformer is one of four at the substation.
