Transformer fire shuts down reactor at 3rd NPP in Taiwan

Taiwan, Taipei: One of the two reactors at Taiwan's third nuclear power plant was shut down early today after a fire broke out in the plant's non-nuclear zone, according to Taiwan Power Company (Taipower).

 


Taiwan, Taipei: One of the two reactors at Taiwan’s third nuclear power plant was shut down early today after a fire broke out in the plant’s non-nuclear zone, according to Taiwan Power Company (Taipower).

The fire involved an outdoor auxiliary step-down transformer 345/161 kV which provides electricity for the operation of the nuclear plant itself, repots Taiwan Focus.

The fire has been extinguished and there was no evacuation or danger of radioactive contamination.

The nuclear power plant is located in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan.
