USA, South Carolina: American Electric Power (AEP) crews are still working to restore power after an underground fire broke out in downtown Charleston on Thursday night.

The fire in the underground power station which forced shutdown of downtown Charleston was reported to have been caused by a blown transformer, but this has been denied by AEP officials, according to the latest reports by WSAZ News Channel.

AEP says the power station started the problem, and it will need an entire replacement.

Charleston city offices in City Hall and the City Service Center will be closed today due to the outages that are still affecting a portion of the downtown area.
