Campuses across U.S. in need of major transformer upgrades
USA, Ohio: With the current move by U.S. utility companies to deliver higher and higher voltages from the grid, many schools, colleges and universities across the United States will have to replace their transformers, according to Cincinnati-based Electric Service Company (ELSCO), specializing in providing new, repaired and rebuilt transformers.

A transformer explosion at the University of La Verne in California which caused a power outage and forced evacuations two years ago is just one example of immediate and devastating effects power transformer failures can have on campus operations, including the risk of subsequent fires, fines, security lapses and lawsuits which can increase the damages, warns ELSCO, reports Facility Executive.
As utilities no longer supply lower voltage, nor low voltage equipment service, many campuses need to be transformed and upgraded to higher voltage distribution system. Also spurring the need for replacement is the aging infrastructure at many established teaching institutions, put into operation 40 to 60 years ago.
Faced with massive upgrades, demanded by either an electricity provider or for preventative purposes, many campuses are now beginning the process of acquiring newer power transformers.
