GE redevelops old medium transformer plant in Rome, Georgia

USA, Georgia: General Electric’s Power Generation Services will take over 3,000 square metres of the former GE medium transformer plant on Redmond Circle in Rome, Georgia later this month.
Over the past few months, the company has refurbished the old plant where it will transfer a warehouse and distribution operation from Richmond, Virginia, reports Rome News Tribune.
The GE plant in Rome, which has been empty for nearly 18 years, produced medium transformers for use around the world from 1952-1997.
The production of medium transformers at the plant involved polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were used to cool the transformers before the chemicals were banned by the government in 1979 as a possible carcinogen.
