EIB will finance substation projects in Tajikistan

Tajikistan, Dushanbe: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted €70 million loan to Tajikistan to fund the construction of a 500 kV power transmission project, which will interconnect electricity networks of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

 


Tajikistan, Dushanbe: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted €70 million loan to Tajikistan to fund the construction of a 500 kV power transmission project, which will interconnect electricity networks of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

EIB has also agreed to finance the construction of a new 500/220 kV substation with power transformers and associated electrical equipment, as well as extension of two existing power substations in Tajikistan, and a substation in Kyrgyzstan, reports Energy Business Review.

The project is part of the Central Asia – South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade (CASA-1000) regional electricity scheme.

The programme is designed to develop sustainable conditions for clean electricity trade from hydropower plants (HPP) in countries, including Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
