New Zealand, Waikato: A New Zeland’s utility company Powerco has invested USD 1.2 million in an upgrade of its substation at Waharoa, Waikato, which included adding a 17 MVA transformer capable of powering 8,500 households.

The new transformer came into effect in June, when it was switched on for the first time, reports Voxy.

This is one of several upgrades that have been performed since the Waharoa substation opened eight years ago with a 5 MVA transformer.

Powerco Electricity Service Delivery Manager, Dave Hammond, said that the latest upgrade was aimed at both meeting current demand and future-proofing the area for continued growth.
