EWZ substation receives switchgear bays using new eco-efficient gas

Switzerland, Zurich: The first high- and medium-voltage GIS bays using a new eco-efficient gas mixture have been commissioned by ABB.
The 170/24 kV switchgear bays have been supplied to the Swiss utility EWZ for their newly energized 3 x 50 MVA substation in Zurich, which also deploys high efficiency power transformers.
Located 15 metres underground, this GIS substation replaces an outdoor air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substation built in 1949.
