China to invest $315 billion in power distribution network

China, Beijing: China is planning to invest at least $315 billion (2 trillion yuan) in the construction of its power distribution network during 2015-2020, including an investment of $471 million (300 billion yuan) in 2015, according to an action plan on power distribution network construction and transformation for 2015-2020 released by the National Energy Administration on Monday.

As Xinhua Finance reports, according to the plan, China targets to increase the power transformation capacity of distribution network to 2.1 billion KVA with the total cabling length of 1.01 million kilometres by 2020, and that of medium-voltage distribution network to 1.15 billion KVA with total cabling length of 4.04 million kilometres.

In addition, China would strengthen construction and transformation of charging facilities and target to feed the access demand for 12,000 charging stations and 4.8 million charging poles and charging demand for 5 million electric vehicles by 2020. Meanwhile, the coverage of smart meters will be promoted to 90 percent by 2020.
