Tamil Nadu invests $1B in new substations

India, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has announced that new substations will be established at a cost of over $1 billion in order to strengthen the power infrastructure in the state, according to The New Indian Express.

 


India, Tamil Nadu: Addressing the Assembly on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced that new substations will be constructed in the state at a cost of over $1 billion in order to strengthen Tamil Nadu power infrastructure, according to The New Indian Express.

The substations with power transformers and associated electrical equipment will include a new pooling substation in North Chennai with a capacity of 3 X 1,500 MVA and a substation at Ariyalur with a capacity of 2 X 1,500 MVA, which will assist in evacuation of power generated at thermal power stations in North Chennai and Ennore.

Another substation with a capacity of 2 X 1,500 MVA will be set up in Coimbatore district to strengthen the power infrastructure in Coimbatore, Salem and Mettur regions.

The Chief Minister also announced that a mega thermal power project to generate 4,000 MW will be set up at Nallampatti village in Ramanathapuram district, at an estimated cost of $3.6 billion.
