Japan, Tokyo: Hitachi Soe Electric & Machinery (Hitachi SEM), a joint venture company established for handling transformers for power systems and power distribution in Myanmar obtained relevant authorisations and begun business operations on 1 October.

As previously reported by Transformers Magazine, the joint venture has been established by Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems (HIES) and Soe Electric & Machinery (SEM) through a formal contract of 7 July 2015, in order to further strengthen the collaborative relationship the two companies had had since 2012 related to amorphous transformers.

As of 1 October, Hitachi SEM took over SEM’s transformer business, and will undertake the design, manufacture, sales, installation, and maintenance of power transmission and distribution equipment in Myanmar, with a particular focus on transformers for power system and power distribution applications, reports Sys-Con Media.

The new venture will strive to increase the ratio of local production in Myanmar for these transformer products, many of which are currently being imported from overseas.
