Switzerland, Zurich: ABB has won orders worth $23 million from Power Grid Corporation of India to supply 765 kV ultra-high voltage power transformers for substations in the northern Indian states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

The new substations will receive power from the Tehri Hydropower Complex in the northwest for distribution across Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, the home of the Taj Mahal. The enhanced transmission capacity will help address growing demand in the region.

The orders include the design, manufacture, testing, transportation, erection and commissioning of 17 765 kV single-phase auto-transformers at the substation sites.

Three of these transformers rated at 500 MVA will be installed at the Meerut substation in the north west of Uttar Pradesh, while 14 transformers rated at 266.7 MVA will be installed in new green field substations being constructed in Uttarakhand.
