Norway, Oslo: Wide areas of downtown Oslo and the western districts of the capital were hit by power failures around midday on Wednesday, including the Parliament and Oslo’s metro system.

The utility company Hafslund confirmed that more than 50,000 customers in west Oslo and 17,000 in the neighbouring town of Bærum were without power.

According to Hafslund officials, the outage was caused by a fault in one of Hafslund’s Smestad power transformers.
