KAEC sells Louisville transformer plant and lays off employees
USA, Kentucky: Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives Inc. (KAEC) announced in December it will shut down its transformer manufacturing operations in Louisville in early 2016, as part of a shift to a distribution-only business model.
USA, Kentucky: Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives Inc. (KAEC) announced in December it will shut down its transformer manufacturing operations in Louisville in early 2016, as part of a shift to a distribution-only business model.
The plant closure results from an agreement KAEC entered in December to sell the assets of its manufacturing plant to Dyersburg, Tenn.-based transformer manufacturer and distributor Electric Research and Manufacturing Cooperative Inc., (ERMCO), reports Louisville Business First.
The closure will result in 94 employees being laid off in 2016.
KAEC had manufactured electric transformers since 1957, producing about 32,000 pole mount and pad mount transformers per year.
