South Africa, Gauteng: A fire that broke out on Friday morning at the Rynfield substation has left parts of Benoni in the Ekurhuleni municipality without electricity.
City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the fire was caused by a transformer that exploded, reports eNCA.
“The fire has been put out and emergency personnel are clearing the smoke. The equipment is also being cooled down. The transformer that exploded will be replaced,” Gadebe said.
Four mini substations at Rynfield and Crystal Park were also affected.
