St. Croix plans new transformers after transformer failure incident
USA, Wisconsin: St. Croix County has decided to invest in three new transformer to build a backup system with an aim to prevent a repeat of a recent incident that interrupted electrical service to the county’s emergency 911 centre, jail and Government Center.
USA, Wisconsin: St. Croix County has decided to invest in three new transformers to build a backup system with an aim to prevent a repeat of a recent incident that interrupted electrical service to the county’s emergency 911 centre, jail and Government Center.
The transformer, which feeds the entire building, failed several months ago because it was not properly grounded when the Government Center was built, reports River Falls Journal.
“It all started with a hum in 911 […] telephone lines,” said Facilities Director Jim Elsbury. When the cover on the transformer was removed, it was revealed that the insulation on cables was fried.
Elsbury further stated that the problem was with the original installation, so the faulty transformer was replaced.
The County now plans to install three new transformers with each offering backup electrical service to the county’s critical departments: 911, the jail and information technology.
