Thousands of people joined the demonstration protesting against EU recognizing China as a market economy, which would make it more difficult for manufacturers such as ArcelorMittal and ThyssenKrupp AG to win sufficiently high duties on alleged dumped shipments to Europe by Chinese competitors, reports Bloomberg.
The rally highlighted fears that China’s export power could wipe out industries and leave hundreds of thousands of people jobless across the EU.
“We don’t want to have dumping,” Andreas Goss, chief executive officer of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG said in an interview, “we want to keep our innovative and more efficient jobs here,” cites Bloomberg.
