EU ministers worry over Chinese steel dumping

Belgium, Brussels: Some of EU trade ministers who met in Brussels on Monday 29 February to discuss steel trade anti-dumping measures believe the EU needs to tighten up its anti-dumping rules to protect its steel industry from cheaper Chinese imports.
EU ministers from seven different countries warned of the dangers of China entering the market economy, including France and Spain, reports Euronews.
Europe’s steel industry says classifying China as a market economy will make it hard to impose anti-dumping duties. There is also a fear this could lead to 300,000 jobs losses.
While the European Commission may recommend that China receives market economy status by the end of the year, EU governments remain divided on whether to support that position.
