USA, Los Angeles: Thousands of people in the Studio City and Sherman Oaks area, Los Angeles, California lost power on Wednesday night, possibly from a transformer explosion at an electrical substation, according to authorities.

About 8,700 customers were affected by the outage, which began about 9 p.m., said the spokeswoman for the Department of Water and Power (DWP), reports LA Times.

The DWP said it was unclear what triggered the outage but that it might be connected to a fire caused by the transformer electrical explosion reported at substation in the 4200 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue.

There is no news when the power might be restored.
